Do you believe that your height influence your wages? In other words, it is much easier for tallest people to become well-known and earn the appropriate sums of money. Probably, that's why we adore to compare celebrity heights - in order to find out for whom it was simple to achieve success and who had to work hard in order to beat the statistics. And you should notice that in accordance with various surveys in Britain and America, the tallest quarter of the population earns 10% more than the shortest quarter. Of course, this figure is not so high to worry about... but why is it so?
There are various psychological explanations and theories concerning this subject. One theory says that there is a stigma attached to height and that's why it is easy for tall people to predominate. The other theory is that evolutionarily, tall people were more successful in hunting and it was associated with the positive traits. The third theory says that the main thing is a better self-estimate which increase confidence and makes us more successful. It is up to you to choose the theory you prefer the most of all. In my opinion, the theory about evolution and all this stuff is more appropriate for our psychological measures. But it should be noted that, of course, celebrity heights influence our opinion about them, but it is only because we don't communicate with them in real life. To be precise, we measure celebrity heights or someone else parameters not in feet and inches, but in our own minds. And in this case, it is not height any more, it is our general opinion about some person. But till we don't communicate them all we have to do is to learn more about them and celebrity heights in particular in order to form our opinion about them. |
